Rectification of 'Category' of the applicants:
Selection of Engineers/Officers through GATE-2017

This one-time on-line correction of information regarding ‘Category’ is meant to be extended to those candidates only, who by mistake and otherwise entered information regarding their ‘Category’ while filling in the on-line application for the post of Officers/ Engineers through GATE-2017. Change of category is not mandatory. Candidates, sure about correctness of the information regarding their category in the on-line application submitted by them, need not to change their category.
Candidates are advised to go through the following instructions carefully:
  • It has been decided to extend this facility of correction of ‘Category’ of the candidates who have submitted their application on-line for the position of officers/engineers in IndianOil through GATE-2017.
  • This facility will remain open till 31st March 2017. After 31st March 2017 no request for change of category will be entertained. 31st March March 2017 will be considered as ‘Critical Date’ for consideration of category of the candidates appearing for selection as Officer/Engineer through GATE-2017.
  • Once the category is changed, the candidate will be considered for selection under the changed category only. If a candidate is shortlisted for further selection process (GD/GT & Personal Interview), the candidate will have to produce his / her Caste Certificate as per the changed caste during GD/GT and Personal Interview.If the caste certificate produced by the candidate is not as per the prescribed format, Indian Oil will be at its liberty to summarily cancel his/her candidature.
  • For candidates belonging to OBC category, the caste name must appear in the Central List of OBC maintained by ‘National Commission for other Backward Classes (NCBC)’. The statement that the candidate does not belong to ‘Creamy layer’ must be specifically mention in the certificate. OBC category candidates may check their status of caste from the link below:

  • For SC/ST candidates to the caste must appear in the Central list of SC/STs as mentioned by the Government of India. The same may be ensured from the link given below :
  • If any candidate shortlisted under one of the reserved categories, fails to produce appropriate certificate (after modification), he/she, may be considered as a ‘General’ category candidate, provided, he/she meets all the eligibility (including cut-off marks of short-listing) applicable to General Category candidates for that particular discipline.
  • The facility of modification of category has been extended as one time facility to the candidates in order to avoid any request for change in category at a later date. Candidates shall be permitted to change their category only once using this facility. Once the category is modified his/her GATE-2017 ID and Registration No. will be locked and no further attempt for modification of category will be entertained. Hence the candidates are advised to use the facility judiciously.
  • This is an ‘OTP’ based system under which a system generated OTP will be sent to the registered mobile number of the candidate. The correction in category will be registered only after the ‘OTP’ is entered by the candidate. The life of the OTP is 5(Five) minutes. So the candidate has to use the OTP within 5 minutes. In case of non-receipt of OTP, the candidate may request the system to generate a new OTP. However, in case of multiple OTPs, only the one generated most recently will function. Once an OTP is generated and same is used for modification of category, it will be considered as the final category of the candidate for recruitment through GATE-2017. He/She will not be allowed to repeat the process once again.
  • OTP is strictly confidential.Candidates are advised to all the candidates not to share his/her IOCL ID/GATE Registration No. and OTP with none.
  • Once the category is modified, the candidate must take a fresh print out of his/her application and preserve the same. The message regarding successful change of category will be transmitted to the candidates through email. The mail will be sent to the registered email ID of the candidates. In case of multiple applications registered by a candidate, the most recent application in our database will be considered as valid application. In case of successful change in category, the e-mail confirming the same will be sent to the e-mail ID corresponding to the most recent application.
  • In case a candidate does not exercise the option of not modifying the category, the category as entered by him/her while registering the application online will remain his/her final category. No further request for modification of category after the closing date ie 19th March 2017 will t be considered. No request will be entertained for any off-line modification of category subsequently.
